The existence of liquid water on Earth is vital to the existence of life on Earth as we know it. Water covers about 80% of Earth's surface. Yet, only about 2.5% is fresh water out of which close to 99% are either frozen in Arctic/Antarctic glaciers and icebergs or in underground sources. Fresh, safe and clean water is so scarce that today access to that is considered a basic human right.

The demand for fresh and clean water exceeds supply by a great margin. A fact which underlines urgent necessity of recycling, reusing and conserving our scarce sources of fresh water.

Steel

Though steel is one of the oldest inventions of early humans, its use became more common after more efficient production methods were devised in the 17th century. Later, steel became an inexpensive mass produced material. Further refinements in the process, such as basic oxygen steel making (BOS) lowered the cost of production while increasing the quality of the metal. Today, steel is one of the most common materials in the world, with more than 1.3 billion tons produced annually.
